Virtual Doorbell Set mine up

The Android appYou have the app

A familiar ring. Your door, on your phone.Connect this phone

You already have the app, so there is nothing to download. Sign in, allow notifications and play the test chime, and every ring will sound on this phone.

Virtual Doorbell works three ways: on Telegram, in the web app, or with this Android app. The app gives every ring a sound of its own and opens your doorbell already signed in, so you can answer from the notification.

Your Android download is ready.

Version 0.1.21 · 766 KB · Android 8+

Android 8 or newer, Google Play services and an internet connection. Visitors still just scan your QR code. The Android download does not install on an iPhone.

No Android, or not ready to install? Sign in or set up your doorbell and use Telegram and the web app.

Three things to set up

  1. Install the app.
  2. Allow notifications and sign in.
  3. Connect this phone and test a ring.
Follow the steps
The Android app's first screen on a phone: the heading 'Your door, closer.', a card that says 'Sign in to start' with an 'Open my doorbell' button, and rows for checking the alert connection, notification settings, a test chime and privacy and help.

Install it, step by stepConnect this phone, step by step

Setting names vary between Android phones. The app comes directly from this website as an APK installation file.

  1. Download the installation file

Use the Android download at the top of this page. When the download finishes, tap Open in your browser, or find the file in your phone’s Downloads folder.

  2. Allow this download source

If Android asks, tap Settings and allow the browser or Files app to install unknown apps. Return to the downloaded file. This permission belongs to the app opening the file, such as Chrome.

You can turn that permission off again after installation. Keep Android’s normal app checks enabled.

  3. Install, then open Virtual Doorbell

Tap Install, wait for it to finish, then tap Open. You can open it again from your phone’s app list.

  4. Allow notifications and sign in

Follow the app’s notification setup and allow Android’s notification permission when asked. Open your doorbell and sign in with your existing account. Keep Telegram available for the sign-in confirmation.

Camera and microphone access are for answering calls. Android asks separately when those features need them.

  5. Connect this phone

Return to the app’s setup screen and connect notifications. Check that the app reports this phone as connected. Choose a sound in its notification settings and make sure your phone’s notification volume is audible.

  6. Check an actual ring

Try the app’s local sound check first. Then lock this phone and ask someone to scan your own door’s QR code on a second phone and ring once. Open the notification and answer. Check that you can hear each other.

A local sound check confirms your sound settings. The two-phone check also tests the connection from your door.

If something needs a second try

Do I need Developer options or USB debugging?

The normal download-and-install steps above use Android’s “install unknown apps” permission. They do not require USB debugging or a computer.

If your phone displays a developer-verification prompt, follow its on-screen instructions. Requirements can differ by country, Android version and phone policy. If a managed phone blocks installation, ask its administrator. Read Google’s current explanation.

The installation file will not open

Check that the download finished and that you are on an Android phone. Open the APK from Downloads and grant installation permission to the app opening it. If Android displays a warning about this specific download, contact us with the wording before proceeding.

I see a notification, but there is no sound

Open Virtual Doorbell’s notification settings. Allow its doorbell notifications, select an audible sound and raise your notification volume. Check Silent mode and Do Not Disturb. The app respects your phone’s sound settings.

This phone does not receive a ring

Check your internet connection, notification permission and the app’s connection status. Open the app again after Android’s Force stop command. Check that your door is not paused or inside quiet hours. If Android has put this app in a restricted battery mode, review that setting before repeating the two-phone test.

Internet delivery can be delayed. Keep your existing Telegram alerts while you check the app, and keep a contact number on your door’s sign.

How do I update or remove the app?

Download the newer version here and install it over the existing app.To update, open this website in your phone’s browser, go to the Android app page and download the newer file, then install it over the existing app. If Android refuses the update, contact us before uninstalling; uninstalling removes this phone’s local sign-in. Use the app’s disconnect or sign-out control before removing it from Android.

What does the notification service receive?

When you enable app notifications, Google’s Firebase Cloud Messaging routes alerts to an installation token for this phone. The push alert contains an expiring reference. The app requests the doorbell details from Virtual Doorbell after checking your access. Read about your information.
